To be honest, I don’t think too much about getting older. Even today, at 54, I don’t give it a ton of thought. Someone shot me a note this morning wishing me happy birthday and including this gem of wisdom from the great baseball pitcher, Satchel Paige: “Age is a case of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it don’t matter”.

With a woman that has inexplicably stuck to and by me for the last 28 years, four girls who I have been fortunate to raise and love, brimming optimism that my first novel will catch a wave, and much more – my first 54 have not been too shabby.

With that kind of luck, Satchel is right – what’s to mind?
